Avalanche's past before Mystique recruited him for the Brotherhood of Mutants is almost entirely unknown, except for the fact that he is an immigrant from Crete in Greece. Fred J. Dukes was a member of a circus sideshow, called "the Blob". Xavier asks him to join the X-Men. The Blob refuses the invitation, saying he is better than the other X-Men. He leads the other circus members to attack the mansion, but they fail. Later Magneto recruits him to join the Brotherhood of Mutants, but he leaves when he realizes Magneto doesn’t care about his safety. Mystique recruits him to her Brotherhood after breaking him out of jail.
Byron Calley
Burner / Crucible
Issue #4
Burner can psionically induce and retard combustion. He can set things on fire, project flames from his hands like a flamethrower, and douse fires around him. His mind automatically douses any flame that comes within one foot of him, effectively making him immune to the effects of his own power as well as any fire.
Byron Calley was a criminal from New Jersey called “Burner”. He joined Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants to battle Captain America. When Magneto left, the group called itself Mutant Force and worked for the government to try to capture the Hulk. The Mutant Force became terrorists to oppose the Mutant Registration Act. Burner changed his name to Crucible. Byron returned to his Burner identity when he joined Mystique’s Brotherhood.

Mystique eventually forms a new Brotherhood of Mutants as team leader.
Duncan Matthews
Issue #6
Sense mutants and determine how potentially powerful they are.
Duncan Matthews is a stereotypical jock. When he learned mutants attended his school, he begun bullying them. His hatred for mutants intensifies, and he even terrorizes random mutants in the street. With a group of friends, he tries to lynch a mutant. It is later revealed that Duncan is himself a mutant. When he comes to grips with this, he is recruited by Mystique into her Brotherhood of Mutants.

Sabretooth has the powers of a regenerative healing factor, foreign chemical immunity, immunity to diseases, extended longevity, superhuman stamina, superhuman strength, superhuman agility, superhuman reflexes, superhumanly acute senses, claws and fangs, psionic resistance
Much of Creed’s early life is unknown. He was known by the name Sabretooth in a small 1910’s Canadian frontier community where he intimidated everyone. He had a rivalry with Wolverine. He raped his lover and left her for dead. He joined Weapon X for a time in the 60s. Then he had a relationship with Mystique, resulting in a son (Graydon Creed). After many other adventures (such as having adamantium implanted), Sabretooth joined Mystique’s Brotherhood of Mutants.
Mortimer Toynbee

Toad has the abilities of superhuman leaping, flexible bone structure, superhuman stamina, superhuman agility, superhuman reflexes, superhuman durability, regenerative healing factor, UV/infrared vision, prehensile tongue, pheromone secretion, acidic saliva, paralytic resin, superhuman respiratory system, and amphibian control.
Mortimer Toynbee was born in York, England as an ugly and disfigured baby. He was abandoned by his parents due to his mutant appearance present from birth. He dropped out of school and joined Magneto's original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, becoming Magneto's sycophantic 'toady'. When kidnapped with Magneto by the Stranger, Magneto abandoned Toad. Toad later left Magneto and started a solo career. He eventually joined Mystique’s Brotherhood of Mutants.

She was a fierce hand-to-hand combatant and an excellent hunter and tracker.
Maria Callasantos and her siblings grew up poor and abandoned by their father. When Maria and her sister Lucia’s mutant abilities manifested, they joined the Morlocks. She refused to join Masque’s Morlock army and instead joined the New Mutants and later X-Force. Maria left X-Force to join the terrorist Mutant Liberation Front. After Maria was imprisoned for murder and escaped, she joined the New Hellions. She joined X-Corporation, but it did not suit her and she left to join Mystique’s Brotherhood of Mutants. She was later killed by Sabretooth.

Leech was left by his parents to die when his mutation became apparent. He was found by the Morlock Caliban and taken in. Leech survived the Morlock Massacre and became a ward of X-Factor. He later lived at the Massachusetts Academy under Emma Frost’s care. After the academy closed, Leech was kidnapped by the Weapon X program and used to power one of their machines. Leech was freed, but he was then brainwashed into serving Mystique’s Brotherhood of Mutants.

Pyro had the mutant ability to cause any fire he could see grow in size and intensity or take on any form that he could imagine, even living creatures. Pyro could then mentally direct a creation to do anything he wished by concentrating. Pyro was unable to create fire himself. He was later infected with Hope and lost his powers.
St. John Allerdyce was a greedy Australian who worked as a journalist and a popular romance novelist. Allerdyce met Mystique and joined her Brotherhood of Mutants as Pyro. Pyro later opposed Mystique and her new Brotherhood during an attempt on the life of Senator Kelly. Pyro sacrificed his life to stop the assassination. Maxwell Jordan joined Xavier’s school once it was rebuilt and became a Corsair. He was an average student and "class clown". He was caught by Kitty Pryde trying to steal a copy of a test. He was forced to spend a day with former thief Gambit in the hopes he’d learn from Gambit’s reformation. However, Gambit taught him thieving techniques instead. This inspired Jordan to become a thief, which he tried after graduation. After little success, he joined Mystique’s new Brotherhood of Mutants.
Devon Alomar
Issue #12
Devon has the ability to mentally "switch" with a victim. In other words, he can exchange bodies with another through switching brainwaves with that person.
Devon joined the Hellions, a mutant criminal team. He fought X-Force and switched bodies with Domino, but fled with the battle turned against him. Later, he regrouped with the Hellions and joined Feral in attacking Senator Owen Danville. He placed his own mind into the senator's body, which allowed them to easily kidnap him. X-Force ambushed him, however, forcing Devon to flee once again. Devon was later recruited to join Mystique’s new Brotherhood of Mutants with Feral.
